astronomy and space lessons with the girls!

Time:     Event runs from 6 - 8PM; We will start setting up at 5PM;

Volunteers should be there no later than 5:45.

This year the Girl Scouts are running the sessions, but they still need our help. Activities will include learning about planets & constellations, the space shuttle, engineering & women astronauts, phases of the moon and more! Astronomers will also be bringing telescopes to show the girls the Seal Beach night sky. Volunteers will be assigned a station prior to the event so that you can become familiar with the material. You do not need to be an expert in the material to be a volunteer, just willing to work with the girls. Don't miss out on this fun opportunity to stargaze with the troop and help introduce them to astronomy and engineering!

Caring for Our Communities

Presented by: Arlene Granadosin

It is everyone's responsibility to take care of our communities - this includes government buildings, businesses, schools and individual residents.   In an age of needing to do more with less, this idea of shared stewardship is even more important. Come hear about what people can do to improve the aesthetic, environmental, and social conditions in their communities.

As a Community Planner, Arlene is involved with a variety of projects for RBF Consulting's Urban Design Studio.  Her experience includes policy and program analysis, housing needs assessments, resource and constraints analysis, community outreach, and policy development. Arlene received a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of California, Irvine, where she researched and proposed local responses to the foreclosure crisis in Orange County, and its negative effects at the neighborhood level. She hopes to continue expanding her knowledge of strategies for developing affordable housing; and participate in the formulation of relevant housing policies at the local, state and federal level.
