Welcome, fellow members and readers, to the official start of the 2011-2012 SWE year! This year brings many exciting activities, networking events, professional development programs, and a wonderful new group of officers, committed to serving your section.
With planning in full swing, now is the time for us, and you, to set goals for the upcoming year. I’d like to ask you a question: When you think of SWE events, what comes to mind? What would you like to see? What types of dinner meetings would you like to attend? Do you enjoy speaking to and awarding students? Or maybe you enjoy social and networking events? We are listening to your ideas because this is YOUR section.
Once you’ve decided what interests you in SWE, take a look at the open positions. Among them are the Outreach Chair, who organizes events at local schools, and the Professional Development Chair, who helps plan and publicize the Dinner Meetings and the section’s Annual Conference. Or maybe you would enjoy planning Work/Life Balance events. You can find more information in the Officer and Committee Chair Manual on our website’s Committee Chair page. Just remember, by volunteering, you are enhancing your own professional growth in more ways than you realize.
