Welcome to SWE-OC FY15!
Hope everyone has been enjoying the warm weather! If you are new to SWE-OC, take a chance to explore our website to familiarize yourself with our structure and events. Don’t forget to sign up for our weekly email newsletter! If you are a renewing member, welcome back! I hope I get the opportunity to meet each of you throughout the year.
SWE-OC is a non-profit educational service organization whose goal is to encourage women to achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity. We host a large variety of events throughout the year, including K-12 student outreach sessions, a professional development conference, technical tours, and fun socials!
Our section is run completely by our members. Therefore, I would like to take a moment to thank our FY14 leaders for their time spent running SWE-OC. Without them, our section would cease to exist. We are always looking for new leaders within SWE. Please get in touch if you are interested in becoming involved.
You may notice some changes taking place over the next few months. An upgraded website, an easier to read email newsletter, and new events and programs are some of the changes you can look forward to in the coming year. We always welcome your recommendations to further improve our section; feel free to contact me at the email below with any suggestions.
Before I leave you, I’d like to remind everyone about WE14, the annual international conference hosted by SWE each year for over 7,000 engineers. This year, it will be hosted on October 23rd – 25thin Los Angeles, which offers us easy access to the fantastic event. The huge career fair is especially useful to those of you looking for jobs and internships. To read more about the event,
please visit http://we14.swe.org/. Don’t forget – if you volunteer the minimum number of required hours, you get half off registration costs.
Here’s to a fantastic year!
